I AM the True Vine
John 15:1-17
“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)
- What does it mean to Abide?
- Menō (Greek) – to remain in a place; not to depart; to continue to be present; to maintain an unbroken fellowship with.
Abide to Bear Fruit (v. 2-7)
- “Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away” (V. 2)
- Airō (Greek) – Takes away; lift up
- John 1:29
- “every branch that bears fruit He prunes…” (V. 2)
- “the branch cannot bear fruit… unless it abides in the vine” (V. 4)
- An independent branch bears no fruit.

Abide in His Word (v. 7-8)
- “My words abide in you” (V. 7)
- The mind of Christ
- WWJD
- Psalms 119:11
- “My Father is glorified” (V. 8)
- God is glorified when we produce His fruit.
Abide with Obedience (v. 10)
- “keep My commandments” (V. 10)
- “There is no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.”
- “that your joy may be full.” (V. 11)
Abide in Love (v. 12-14)
- “love one another as I have loved you.” (V. 12)
- the Lord leaves this standing order
- “Greater love has no one than this” (V. 13)
- Those who Abide are called to this type of devotion.
- “You are My friends” (V. 14)
