“A man’s heart plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9)
I remember back in 2016 when my son was in high school, he was selected as a member of the National Honor Society at his school. He had been working hard to make straight A’s all year and it was great that he was recognized for his hard work. I remember being so very proud of him.
At the induction ceremony for the students that were selected as members, the president of the school, Ron Mitchell, spoke to the students. One of the things he said was that “life is sometimes a dirt path and sometimes it is four lane highway.” He said “the thing that has always helped me along when I was on the dirt path has been God!”
Think about that for minute. A dirt path with a couple ruts leading through that dark part of life. Sometimes there are mud holes and we can get stuck but there is always One who can pull us out. As our children travel down the road of their lives, we need to teach them not to quit and not to try to do everything by themselves. We need to teach them to call on the Lord to lead them down this path.
The same goes for all of us. Why do we try travel this path alone when Jesus can show us the best way. Follow Him to the main road!
“You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” (Psalms 16:11)
