“But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.” (1 Corinthians 15:10)
Do you remember the old cartoon Popeye the Sailor? I do, and one of his many quotes I remember was “I yam what I yam an’ thas’ all what I yam.”
In his letter to the Corinthians, Paul writes “by the grace of God I am what I am.” We sometimes like to brag about our many accomplishments however we must remember in everything to give the God the glory (1 Cor. 10:31) praising Him for the grace that He gives us.
God’s grace comes to us not only in the free gift of salvation, but also as we grow in our Christian life and by our service to others. We should strive to put forth our best effort in our service to the church and to others. Remembering that “we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:10)
We are what we are because of the saving work that Jesus Christ has already done for us and the new life He has created for us, which is a life of good works that He has already prepared for us. His grace toward you was not in vain.
I yam what I yam because God says what I yam! Because of the grace that He gives me!
See you Sunday church!
