“Let us not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us work for the good of all, especially for those who belong to the household of faith.” (Galatians 6:9–10)
When is the last time you helped a friend or neighbor? When was the last time you had an opportunity to help someone but didn’t take it? In this passage, Paul is not saying we should work or we need to work, but that we must work. Why? “For the good of all.” That includes us. Serving not only helps others; it helps us too.
He tells us to “not get tired of doing good.” Sometimes when we are trying to help others, apathy sneaks in and makes us think “what’s the use” or why am I the only one doing this” but as Christians, it is our mission to look for opportunities every day to serve others.
It could be helping a family member at home. We read in 1 Timothy that “if anyone does not provide for his own family, especially for his own household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever” (1 Tim 5:8).
Working and serving others is not that hard and we can receive a blessing by doing it. Maybe you can sit next to someone who needs a friend or invite someone new to join you and your friends for lunch or even come to church. Maybe a kind word or helping someone clean their yard or help with some odd job. Regardless of the ways we choose, praise God by acting like His followers in service to others. “We will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up.”
Pray, asking God to give you and your family the eyes to see the opportunities to serve each day and the hands to follow through.
I hope you you have a great weekend! I can’t wait to see you Sunday! I love you church!!
