“The one who walks with the wise will become wise, but a companion of fools will suffer harm” (Prov. 13:20).
Who do you spend most of your time? What person or group of people affects your character the most? This is one of the most important questions to consider in your life. The community of people you surround yourself with will drastically influence your spiritual growth.
Have you ever noticed how you become more joyful when you’re around a group of joyful people? More critical when you’re surrounded by critical people? Sadder when you’re with depressed people? Choose your company wisely.
Jesus had a group of twelve disciples He consistently spent time with. Their relationships were centered on the mission of God’s kingdom. They traveled together, learning and teaching and performing miracles to display the glory of the Lord.
These disciples went on (in pairs, for the most part) to change history by proclaiming the Gospel through the power of His Holy Spirit. Except for Judas, the disciples’ lives looked similar because of Jesus’ love and the community they shared.
They proclaimed the Gospel to many nations, giving up their lives for the sake of Christ. They reflected each other as they reflected Jesus. This was only made possible through deep relationships and community with each other.
Today, think about the people you spend time with. Do they encourage you on toward Christ? Ask God to reveal any unhealthy, damaging relationships in your life.
Also remember this:
“Do not be deceived: ‘Bad company corrupts good morals’” (1 Cor. 15:33).
I love you church! See you Sunday!
